Mozambique: Pomene Bay: Pomene Lodge ***

In 1964, prior to the civil war in Mozambique, Pomene National Park was established and was a popular destination for families. Despite the devastating effect the war had on the wildlife in the area, it has remained a National Park and this is one of the main reasons why 200 km2 of Pomene remains so sparsely populated. The small community of Pomene has had very little effect on the environment, leaving Pomene as an almost pristine coastal reserve. Pomene Bay, 650 km north of Maputo and 170 km south of Vilanculos has an unspoiled coastline offering clients world class diving, snorkelling and fishing. Part of Pomene's appeal is that it is remote, untouched and unaffected by crowds, cluttered roads and busy beaches, even during peak holiday seasons.

Pomene Lodge

The lodge is situated on a narrow peninsula with the Indian Ocean on one side and the crystal clear waters of a spectacular Mangrove Estuary lapping on the other offering the best of both worlds. From every chalet you are no more than one minutes walk from a white sandy beach.

The lodge is nestled in the Pomene Bay offering clients the change to fall asleep to the rhythmic sound of the ocean or enjoying the spectacular sunsets over the Estuary. Swimming is safe in the lagoon as well.

Water Chalets
10 Water Chalets sit on the estuary and are sheltered from wind and sea. These chalets are the perfect getaway for those looking for a "back to nature" experience. They are all en-suite with shower. All chalets have a double or twin beds, mosquito nets and a fan and are situated within the tidal zone in the Estuary. They are serviced daily but do not have air-conditioning.

Self-catering chalets
There are 3 chalets available: 8 sleeper, 6 sleeper and 4 sleeper. All chalets have cutlery, crockery, 2 plate gas cooker, freezer and bedding including mosquito nets on all beds. Each chalet has a separate toilet and shower with hot and cold water. All cleaning materials and towels are to be provided by guests.

Restaurant and Bar
The bar overlooks the pool and estuary offering the perfect opportunity to enjoy a sundowner cocktail and catch up on “fishing tales”. The menu is invariably al fresco on the restaurant balcony and fresh Fish and Crab are menu favourites.  The Chef is able to prepare meals to suit all tastes are on offer

The dive centre provides all Scuba equipment, air fills and regular departures to the reefs with depths varying between 8 and 30 metres.  This is a Padi affiliated Dive resort.
