IT14-A-Madagascar Nosy Be & Montagne d'Ambre Reserve

This itinerary takes you to the island of Nosy Be and to the northern rainforests of Montagne d’Ambre. The attraction of Nosy Be is its tropical climate and ‘Indian Ocean holiday island’ style which makes it one of Madagascar’s leading sea, sun & sand destinations. While here you should try to visit the surrounding islands of Nosy Tanikely, a marine reserve around which the reefs offer great snorkelling and diving opportunities as well as Nosy Komba, an unofficial ‘sanctuary’ for a thriving population of the endangered Black Lemur. Montagne D’Ambre National Park, is tropical montane rainforest - 45 minutes drive to the south of Diego (Antsiranana). This is one of the most popular hiking venues on the island. It boasts splendid scenery, including lush montane rainforest, crater lakes and the island’s two best-known waterfalls. You will see Crowned and Sanford’s Brown Lemur, various birds including Madagascar Crested Ibis, Montagne d’Ambre Rock-thrush and Cuckoo-roller as well as a selection of amazing reptiles and frogs. Tiny stump-tailed Chameleons may be found underfoot and if your eyes are sharp the remarkable master of camouflage, the Leaf-tailed Gecko may spring into view.
