Madagascar: Chez Arol Ecolodge* - Masoala peninsula
Basic accommodation in eight (8) wooden bungalows, two (2) have private bathrooms, the others the toilet and shower facilities are communal. The rooms have twin-beds with mosquito nets. On occasion lemurs pass close to the property. More than 50 bird species have been seen on the property. Various walking trails, varying in ease of use permit visitors to explore the surrounding forest. Accompanied by competent local guides, you may encounter Brown Mouse Lemur, Eastern Avahi, Eastern Grey Bamboo Lemur, Greater Dwarf Lemur, Red Ruffed Lemur, Weasel Sportive Lemur, White-fronted Brown Lemur and if you are very lucky Aye-aye, too. Humpbacked Whales occur in the bay of Antongil in July and August. If you are interested in reptiles and amphibians then boas, chameleons, leaf-tailed geckoes and stump-tailed chamaeleons and a plethora of frogs are found here. Important birds for birdwatchers include the 'toucan-like' Helmet Vanga, Bernier's Vanga, Mad Serpent Eagle and species of ground-roller.
