Mozambique: Inhambane - Barra Lodge Beach Resort **+
Barra Lodge is set in a picturesque area with spectacular views of pristine beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The accommodation at Barra Lodge is comfortable but basic. There are various options of accommodation that meet each individual's needs. Barra has 16 twin bedded casitas, 4 family casitas and 20 self-catering cottages. There is also a luxurious Live aboard yacht. Activities include a room with DSTV, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, pool table, table tennis and darts.
The traditional Casitas made of thatch, brick and reeds creating a charming atmosphere. The Casitas are fitted with two beds, a shower and toilet, en suite. The family rooms have two extra beds for children under the age of 12. All rooms are sea facing and are a stones throw from the beach.
Self-catering cottages: Each cottage has two bedrooms, lounge come dining room area, kitchen, shower and separate toilet. There are six comfortable single beds. The shower has hot and cold water. All the basic amenities are supplied including a fridge, 2-plate gas stove, cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, utensils and bedding linen. The cottages are serviced daily. This traditional style of accommodation sets the scene for an unforgettable holiday.
Restaurant: While you relax to the sight and the sound of the waves gently breaking on the shore, indulge your taste buds at our restaurant. Fresh seafood dominates the menu with prawns, calamari and fresh line fish remaining the ever-popular favourites.
The Beach Bar is a very popular meeting point. The tropical beach bar creates an atmosphere of relaxation where the best fisherman's yarns are heard. Here you are invited to gather in the evenings to watch the beautiful sunsets, participate in beach volleyball, pub games or simply sip and enjoy exotic cocktails. Pub lunches and pizzas are on sale.
Scuba diving: The fully equipped dive centre has all the necessary facilities including training pool, kit up room, air filling station, lecture and first aid rooms. Resident dive instructors and professional tuition for all PADI courses. There are 15 reefs to dive all within reasonable proximity to the lodge. Dive depths vary from 8 to 30 meters allowing for all levels of dive qualifications. Marine life commonly seen include devil and manta rays, whale sharks, turtles, potato bass, moray eels and a huge variety of reef fish and for the lucky few a sighting of the rare dugong.
Snorkelling: The shallow reefs for snorkelling are filled with colourful reef fish and fascination corals amongst an abundance of other marine life. Mask, snorkel and fins are available for hire at the dive centre when snorkelling with us.
Charter Boat Fishing: Experienced resident fishermen are on hand to introduce you to the excellent fishing waters. The ski boats offer all equipment and tackle to give you the edge on catching that big one. Marlin, sailfish plus a variety of different game fish can be caught in these waters. A new record was set at a fishing competition in these waters yielding 45 different fish species. Barra Lodge promotes a catch and release programme.
Fly-fishing: This popular sport has brought a new dimension to game fishing. Barra offers a variety of fish to catch on fly, be it in the tranquil waters of mangroves or a shallow reef in the ocean.
Sundowner Cruise: Join the open decked barge to watch the sunset over the estuary.
Kayaking: Adjacent to the lodge is a salt-water mangrove with crystal clear waters. Here one can explore by boat or on foot. This ecosystem is made up of a fascination chain of pioneering and sacrificial plants together with a huge array of crustaceans.
Quad bikes: A guided quad bike trail through the coconut plantations and local villages adds a new dimension to your holiday. The guide will take you into areas that one would normally never see. The quad bikes are user friendly and if you have never used a quad bike before your guide will teach you. Quad bikes and vehicles are not allowed on the beaches.
Horse riding: Your dream of riding on the beach can become a reality. Rides are normally done in the early morning and late afternoons.

- A 25% non refundable deposit is required within 7 days to secure the booking.
- On arrival at Inhambane airport foreigners need to pay an arrival tax of ZAR17 (or an equivalent in USD based on the current exchange rate).
Itinerary - 7 nights
Day 1: Flight from Johannesburg to Inhambane with LAM Airlines. Transfer to Barra Lodge where you will be staying for 7 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
Day 8: Transfer back to Inhambane and flight back to Johannesburg with LAM Airlines.
Price includes
International flights from Johannesburg with LAM, hotel accommodation and meals as indicated, all airport - hotel transfers, non-motorised water sports.
Price excludes
Visa fee, airport taxes, drinks, tips, personal expenses and travel insurance.
