Mozambique: Benguerra Island: Marlin Lodge *****

Marlin Lodge has re-opened in February 2008 with some exciting changes and additions. These include 17 new sea-facing chalets; with private decks (covered) and walkways to the beach. All chalets are air-conditioned with a mini bar and indoor and outdoor showers. They all have a private, thatched deck, direct beach access, spacious beds with mosquito nets and a comfortable lounge area.

Marlin Lodge built a new kitchen and a private indoor lounge area. The reception and business centre have been upgraded. The new swimming pool is now closer to the beach. Marlin accommodates 34 guests in 14 Luxury Beach Chalets 80 m2) and 3 Executive Beach suites (110 m2).

The upmarket lodge is constructed from local hard wood and elevated on stilts with deck platforms.
Guests are treated to the finest cuisine and warmest hospitality in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Generator power supplies electricity for lighting and overhead fans. Water is supplied from a well situated a kilometre away from the lodge. The water is purified through a filter system and is safe to drink from the tap. Marlin's cuisine is a tantalizing blend of Africa and Asia. Dinners are sumptuous occasions, each night a surprise, whether dining in the main dining room or sitting at tables laid on the beach at the end of an avenue of palm fronds and flame torches - you won't be disappointed. Try the many activities on offer, such as a thrilling ride on skis, water snake, or para sail; slip across aquamarine shallows on a sailboard or catamaran. There are many world-class snorkelling and diving sites near the lodge while the fishing here is legendary. Inter-island tours plus visits to the mainland and nearby islands are also on offer. When the sun melts over the mainland, ghost along on a dhow sundowner cruise listening to the sibilant splash of the bow wave and flutter of canvas as the sail catches the last of the day's breath. Discover the many species of birds to be found on the islands. Marlin Lodge offers romantic picnic on deserted beaches. In the shallow water, small fish nibble brightly coloured coral and playful dolphins disturb the occasional sombre dugong. Further out in the deep channels lurk the big game fish that so many come to this area to see - and possibly catch: Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo and others that provide an equal challenge.
