Pemba Island - Fundu Lagoon *****
Fundu Lagoon is on Pemba Island, the sister island to Zanzibar lying across the Pemba Channel to the north. The hotel is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the south-western side of the island and is only accessible by boat. There are 14 rooms, consisting of designer tents, set under makuti (thatch) roofs on wooden decks and each with a view over the sea.
Now listed as one of the top diving locations in the world, Fundu Lagoon also caters for the more energetic holiday-maker with a fully-equipped PADI diving Centre and a wide range of water sports including snorkelling, sailing, fishing, water-skiing and kayaking.
Fundu Lagoon is the epitome of a “bare foot paradise” with a distinct Robinson Crusoe air in a remote and peaceful location. It has been designed for couples and groups of friends looking to escape the usual holiday crowds. Divers and water sports lovers are also catered for who are looking for a perfect combination of quality activities and luxury. Whatever you’re looking for, Fundu Lagoon provides a friendly, relaxed haven of peace and outstanding natural beauty.
There are 16 bungalows, including 2 beach suites with private upstairs lounges and plunge pool. They are built on hardwood stilted decks, located discreetly amongst the trees on the beach. The standard bungalows are scattered around the hillside overlooking the bay, all with their own sense of privacy yet giving full and easy access to the amenities. Each bungalow has its own hardwood-panelled bathroom with walk-in shower with hot and cold running water and presents the exclusive Fundu Lagoon product range created from local resources.
Ocean view rooms:
The ocean view rooms are standard rooms situated on the hillside with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and a cool breeze at night time.
Beach front rooms (former Beachside rooms):
The beach side rooms are standard rooms situated on the beachfront, partly hidden by tropical bushes and trees, allowing you to step directly off your balcony onto the sand.
Suites:
The jungle suite is secluded, spacious suite with a tropical jungle feel – a minute’s walk to the beach. Accommodation includes upstairs private chill out area and plunge pool. The beach suite is spacious suite with private shaded lounge/chill out area and plunge pool, directly on the beach.
Superior Suites:
The superior suites are new for this season – both with beachfront locations and stunning views. They incorporate a stone walled bathroom with double vanity unit and shower, a queen sized bed and open plan lounge. The extensive outside deck houses a large plunge pool and various chill out areas.
The main areas are all built under thatch and are large and airy and overlook the sea. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main area or at the jetty bar with a three-course lunch and dinner, all with a choice of dishes of the highest international standard. An amazing jetty stretches way out into the sea and the jetty bar is situated about a third of the way along, offering a wonderful place to relax. The barmen are happy to mix your favourite cocktail for you. Tucked away back inside the main area of the resort there is a Satellite TV room with low-level cushioned seating for those who wish to keep up with goings-on in the rest of the world, and outside on the balcony you can play pool and darts whilst being catered for from the bar.

Itinerary Pemba Island: 7 nights
- DAY 1: Fly from Johannesburg to Dar Es Salaam with Air Tanzania. Proceed through customs and immigration and check in for your charter flight to Pemba Island (30 minutes) with Zan Air. Transfer by road (30 minutes) to the jetty and then by boat to FunduLagoon(20 minutes) where you will be staying for 7 nights on a fully inclusive basis (excluding certain drinks see below).
- DAY 8: Transfer to the airport and check in for your return flight to Dar Es Salaam. Check in for your flight to Johannesburg with Air Tanzania.
Price includes:
International flights (departure from Johannesburg), domestic flights from Dar Es Salaam to Pemba Island return with Zan Air, hotel accommodation on full board basis, a selection of wine, spirits, cocktails, beers, bottled water, soft drinks, juices, tea & coffee, unguided mangrove canoe safaris and dhow sunset cruise subject to availability and airport-hotel return transfers.
Not included:
Visa fee, drinks not indicated, diving, motorized water sports, tips, personal expenses, Marine Park entrance fee, travel insurance and airport taxes
