Zanzibar - Pongwe Beach Hotel **
The Pongwe Beach Hotel is one hours drive from the airport and located on the north-east coast of Zanzibar. Situated on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, the Pongwe Beach Hotel is a true paradise retreat, set within a secluded bay on the east coast of Zanzibar.
The resort's beautiful gardens surround sixteen beach front Zanzibarian cottages, with traditional lime wash walls, and thatched roofs made from woven palm leaves. You will find various local hand crafted Zanzibarian doors and traditional beds. All cottages have en suite bathrooms, with Moroccan style walk in showers. Each sea view cottage has a veranda with enticing daybeds, bathroom with a shower, mosquito nets, ceiling fans. No safes in the room (reception); There are tea & coffee facilities in each cottage. Twin room set up is a double bed and an additional single bed.
The bay's azure blue waters - protected by the reef one kilometre from the shore - are ideal for swimming and snorkelling at high tide. If the midday sun becomes too strong you can retreat into the shade of the palm trees that line the white sandy beach, sip a long, cool drink or enjoy the glorious new swimming pool.
The hotel has its own traditional dhow with which guests may gain access to deep waters before and beyond the reef. This provides the ideal opportunity to go game fishing for tuna, marlin, barracuda and king fish.
The consultant chef from England has spent time in the kitchens of the Dorchester Hotel, London and the famous 'Lucas Carton', one of Paris' finest 3 star Michelin restaurants and has advised and trained our own in-house chefs, so you can be assured that the crab, king prawn, and other fine local food will be prepared and cooked to the highest of international standards.
Please note:
- Pongwe Beach Hotel water is precious
- The hotel runs on three generators which are switched off during the night (1am - 6am daily).
- Visa and Master Card are accepted with a 6% surcharge and on Travellers' Cheques a 5 % surcharge.
Itinerary: 7 nights
- DAY 1: Fly from Johannesburg to Zanzibar with Air Tanzania. Transfer to Pongwe Beach Hotel where you will be staying for 7 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.
- DAY 8: Transfer to the airport and check in for your return flight to Johannesburg.

International flights (departure from Johannesburg), all accommodation and meals as indicated and all airport-hotel transfers
